The media is focused on the return of American Idol this week. Last year’s ratings disaster is on everyone’s mind and people are talking about if or how American Idol has learned its lesson and will be “different” this year.
Maybe, but the real problem with American Idol did not start last year, it peaked last year, and I have not heard anyone talk about it.
American Idol used to be about the talent. It has tried to become about the judges and their drama. Not enough people care about that to keep the show viable. If they want to succeed they have to return to what the audience was “buying” not the silly soap opera they decided to sell.
Is your company focused on its internal drama or on what your customers value? If the former, things are not likely to go well.
